Everything I need!
From years of camping for fun, while hunting, and on kayak trips, I accumulated a pretty good selection of gear. By first appearances - I thought cool, I have everything that I need. But weight was never an issue before...Mmhmm.
My trusty old Wilderness Experience 20° synthetic bag, about the size of a big watermelon and probably just as heavy...not good. And in this corner, weighing it at an impressive - 7.4lbs...Euuuuu-rrrrreeee-ka, three person tent. Wow! Stove w/hose - heavy. Stainless steel pot - heavy. Sleeping pad, heavy and not very comfortable.
Heavy, heavy, heavy! The bag, tent and sleeping pad alone are nearly 15lbs. Okay, I'm on a major budget and now have a crisis. Now what, but I became best friends with google and Amazon.
"Buy once, cry once". all you Zpack folks, please don't correct me. I would love to have it - but can't afford it. Period! But that would be some nice gear to be homeless with. So my situation may or may not apply to everyone - and anyone it wouldn't apply to anyone else for that matter.
However, in my price range - what I can afford and should reasonably spend - every pound saved appears to cost me approximately one-hundred American Dollars.
I have to balance my cost to weight savings and not have everything I want but hopefully get everything that I need. I probably won't be able to spend upper 200's for that sweet 2lb tent, just to shave 1 1/2lbs off.
I'll spare you all the boring research details, but let's just say that I may or may not have a tendency of getting a little crazy with informational overload.
Guilty!
Lets just say I found a tent, a backpack and a sleeping bag - all at 2017 clearance prices. Still more than I really want to spend, but better than what I would have spent for the latest, greatest, current models.
Give me a lower case "yippy!".
I'm still buying items based on importance and need first - and when I win the lottery, I'll work down my list and check them off. But here is how I'm looking now - hopefully my wife isn't reading, eck.
I'm actually in pretty good shape I think! Equipment, not physical that is ha! Don't get me started!

In all honesty, I have all the necessary clothing - but would be really nice to lighten up my footwear by replacing boots for shoes... -24oz. +$70.00. We'll see!
See ya down the trail...
